My name is Kate, and I am mum to Connor who was my absolute world. Connor was such an innocent young man who impacted so many people’s lives and I have always been his advocate along with many other people who loved and cared for him.

My life completely changed on the 16th September 2000 when I was thrown into the world of being a carer, but I did not know to what extent. First and foremost, I am a mum who immediately loved my son and would do anything for him.  I had to learn about Connors condition and what it meant for him and our family. I had numerous meetings and consultations with local authorities to get what he needed. Doctors and hospital staff supported him to get the medical care he required and school teachers and LSA’s supported his development in his education.

I would not change anything I had to do for Connor. In fact, I often feel I could have done more but that is probably a parent thing, as you never feel you have done enough.

Our Introduction

There are many articles written and platforms created by highly qualified, educated individuals about the subjects I have included within this website. I am coming from it as a mum with information I have gathered through my own research and my own experiences. I urge you to please do your own research and read up on subjects you may not know too much about. I would highly recommend  visiting Mencap's website where you will find some excellent information and advice about communication including a video from people with a learning difficulty.  You can find a link to Mencap and other links on our Links page that will direct you to where you need to go. There is help and support to be found, please do not feel you need to be on your own with whatever to are going through.

Connor’s journey ended abruptly and I feel it was totally unjust. Connor was such a delight and a true teacher, which he was totally unaware of, and I have a strong sense that he needs to continue to teach, hence this website.

Doing nothing is not an option

By creating Connor's Voice he is still teaching people about additional needs, learning difficulties, what to look out for, where to seek help and to focus on the wonderful abilities he and many others offer this world.

To have your support with this, whether you are a professional, a family member, a carer, or a friend we will continue to highlight what still needs to improve, to get valuable information to those who need it and to support what is already being achieved. I will NEVER stop being Connor's mum! He deserved so much better in the end and he had so much love to give, so I wish to continue that in the only way I know how. I cannot thank you all enough for taking the time to explore this website.
